How to volunteer at Chalmers
Chalmers Community Services Centre (Chalmers) is a unique place to volunteer. At Chalmers we strive to maintain an accepting, welcoming, community-oriented environment. Everyone at Chalmers whether staff, volunteer or guest, is considered equal. We are a community where people serve people.
Our programs are volunteer driven, which means that our volunteers play an integral role in every aspect of what happens at Chalmers. Volunteer positions and hours are varied, and we aim to find a good fit for each person who gives of their time at Chalmers.
At Chalmers, you can make a real difference in people’s lives. We often hear from guests that Chalmers is the most welcoming place that they visit. It’s our volunteers that make it this way.
If you think you may be interested in volunteering with us, contact us to set up a visit. We would be happy to show you around and introduce you to our work. Please also print out our Volunteer Application form to bring with you, or fill it out online.
Become a Committee Member
Our dedicated committees make the work we do at Chalmers possible! We are currently looking for new committee members. If you or someone you know has experience in any of the following fields and would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you!
The Financial Committee plans the budget for the year and discusses the financing of upcoming projects. This committee completes most of their work via email, so in-person meetings are only held as-needed. (1-1.5hrs / month
The Microfinance Committee oversees the microfinance program and brings any issues around policy or direction to the board. This committee holds the occasional coffee-shop meeting with various officials at the call of the chair. (1 hr / 2-3 months)
The Program Committee meets every other month (7:15 pm on the 3rd Monday) to address current needs brought forth by CCSC staff, volunteers and guests, and establish long-term goals for CCSC programs/services through intentional visioning sessions and ongoing communication with the Board. (1 hr 45 mins / 2 months excl. summer months)
The Personnel Committee assists the Board of Directors with Human Resource responsibilities for CCSC employees. This committee meets a minimum of twice per year, though additional meetings may be called by the Chair if needed. (1 hr / 6 months)
The Fundraising Committee builds relationships with the community to foster the financial and in-kind donations that fund the CCSC’s programs and services. Meetings can be called by the chair or any two members of the Committee. (2-4 hours/month)
The Communications Committee engages donors and the community at large through marketing and communication tasks that promote brand awareness and consistent messaging. This committee meets monthly on Friday mornings with some additional work between meetings. (1.5-3 hrs / month)
