Chalmers is recruiting a Program and Volunteer Manager!

About us:
We are a local non-profit organization situated in Guelph, Ontario. At Chalmers, we provide fresh, healthy and culturally sensitive food as well as hygiene products to everyone who comes here. Our guests can come every other week for groceries and every weekday to enjoy our café and relax with our volunteers. All of this is offered free of charge, with no means testing and in an environment of dignity and respect for all.
What we offer:
- An in-person position. The Program and Volunteer Manager (PVM) will be on-site during our opening hours in the mornings (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday), and on Wednesday from 4 PM until 8 PM.
- A part-time position: 24 hours weekly, starting in mid-May.
- Hourly wage: $25
- Some evenings can be required for special events (approximately 5 to 8 times per year) - Statutory holidays, 2 weeks of vacation. Vacation increases with years in the organization. - 5 personal days per calendar year (sick leave, moving, family events...).

Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Program and Volunteer Manager (PVM) monitors our programs and services and supervises a large number of volunteers. This person is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, managing, and ensuring the ongoing services of Chalmers. The PVM monitors systems and procedures to facilitate the ordering and distribution of food, which includes ensuring and maintaining food safety.
The PVM works closely with the ED, all staff members and the Board of Directors. This position requires strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as the ability to exercise sound judgment, prioritize tasks, and work independently with a high degree of accuracy.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Recruit, orient, train, schedule, and supervise the volunteers
- Coordinate and monitor the different programs for the guests and volunteers
- Write and send the Weekly Volunteer Newsletter
- Report regularly to the Executive Director
- Order the food, follow up on the purchases, and do the inventory of the food
- Provide all monetary information to the Bookkeeper
- Provide monthly statistics on the food donation
- Communicate with our food partners from other agencies
- Solve problems when they arise and take initiatives to reduce them in accordance with Chalmers’ values, mission, and policies
- Attend the weekly team meetings
-Work on grant proposals
- Provide monthly reports to the ED for the Board of Directors

What you will bring:
- 3 years or more of coordination experience
- 2 years or more experience in supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft products (Word, Excel), Adobe, Google products (Drive, Gmail) - Demonstrated ability to work professionally with a commitment to ethical best practice - Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills in English
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and identify priorities or emergencies
- Strong planning and time-management skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment: empathy, non-violent communication, and patience are mandatory
- Curiosity, desire to learn and share knowledge with the team
What we will be happy to see in your resume:
- Experience with a non-profit organization
- Safe Food Handling certificate is an asset
- Knowledge of issues related to food security or income security and inequities - Volunteering experience (in Canada or abroad)
- Any other language than English is an asset
