Volunteer of the Month
We are appreciative for the hard work and dedication of all Chalmers volunteers. Some volunteers go above and beyond for our organization, and we would like to acknowledge their contributions!
Annette Nassuth
Chalmers' team is proud to name Annette Nassuth volunteer of the month for the month of January, 2025!!
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Annette for all her incredible volunteer work and her ongoing support within different tasks at Chalmers! Annette is selfless, enthusiastic, proactive and very committed to the cause of alleviating food poverty and food insecurity. Annette walks into Chalmers with a positive attitude and a warm smile to receive and connect with the guests we serve. Annette often shares new ideas and suggestions to make serving guests even better. Whatever the task at hand is, Annette does not shy away from it, and handles her work with utmost care and precision. When she takes on a task, she does that fully and without any delay. Annette is a volunteer that is able to help in any capacity, and will respond even if tasks are last minute. Annette helps portioners, assists in bringing in fresh produce from markets, picks up donations for the Centre, single-handedly runs the Cafe twice a week - every week, and even helps with registration duties. This is not to mention that whenever Chalmers plans an event where additional volunteers are needed, Annette is always amongst the first to be present to help.
Annette, you have made a significant and lasting impact on Chalmers! You are always ready to support and to share valuable insights on different activities. We are deeply grateful for your selfless generosity in wanting to contribute to the Guelph community, and the energy you bring about. We know that guests are always happy to have you around, especially during Cafe time. Children are delighted when Annette hands out cakes, cookies, and other treats, or when she has stories and books for them. Thank you, Annette, for going above and beyond to make a positive impact!
Get to know Annette!
Annette Nassuth was born in The Netherlands, where she completed her studies before working as a researcher in Munich, Germany and Ottawa, Canada. Next she joined the University of Guelph as a plant molecular biology professor. She started to volunteer at Chalmers in July 2023.
As expressed by Annette:
"I was fortunate to have had a job that allowed me to work with many different people and brought me a lot of joy. In my retirement I wanted to give back to the community, preferably while interacting with people. Chalmers was brought to my attention and struck me especially because of its motto of “Dignity And Respect For All”. Volunteering at Chalmers has helped me to better understand some of the challenges that many people in our community face. I am happy to have been welcomed as part of its team of enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers and staff which aims to give our guests access to healthy food and a positive, respectful place to come to."
