Twelve Ideas to Make Christmas More Meaningful

Posted December 24, 2017 by

How often do we hear someone say  “I’ll be glad when it’s all over”? Well, our Christmas message offers a few ideas to help keep the season alive:

  1. Remember that Christmas Day is the beginning of the Christmas season, not the end. Even if you are back to work before new year’s, how can you continue to hold the Christmas spirit in your life during these twelve days?
  2. Research the history of the holiday, familiarize yourself with the ancient traditions of Christmas and Hannukah.
  3. Make doing a good deed every day an annual part of your Christmas tradition.
  4. Use the days to connect with people you care about but don’t see very often.
  5. Write a letter or e-mail, someone, you’ve been meaning to contact over the past year but busyness has got in the way.
  6. Help strengthen your community in the coming year – contact an agency which needs volunteers.
  7. Establish a new tradition that will build meaning into the season and into the future.
  8. Watch an inspirational movie about the holiday, maybe ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ or ‘Miracle on 34th Street’.
  9. Talk to others about what is most meaningful about the holiday. Simply having this conversation will underscore its significance for you.
  10. Spend time outdoors in nature. Even if you’re not a skater or skier, walk around your neighbourhood or along the river trails.
  11. Rediscover meaning and purpose. Take some time to determine what is truly meaningful and important to you.
  12. Begin and end this time with gratitude. Take time to reflect on what is good in your life an be grateful.

Wishing all of our Chalmers supporters, friends and families a peaceful and happy holiday season.

What a great thing to send out for these days of Christmas. Thanks Diana. Repetition isn’t bad. This could be sent out more than once. Next year?
